Neumann looking to build up its roster in club soccer

The results don’t necessarily matter regarding wins and losses. For St. John Neumann’s club soccer team, the end result that matters is participation numbers increasing.

That’s what’s happened for the past three seasons that Neumann’s had a club team. Carinne Beiter has seen the roster grow each year she’s been part of the team.

The past two seasons, Beiter coached alongside her brother Isaac. This year, she’s coaching with Marianna McKimpson.

“Each year we have more kids wanting to participate,” Beiter said. “If the numbers of players keep increasing, I don’t see why Neumann can’t (have a varsity team) in the near future.”

The team consists of 15 boys players and 13 girls players. Neumann’s last varsity team was in 2017 in which the Golden Knights went 5-12. The highlight of that season was Addy Matz ending her career with an impressive 918 saves and Shayna McNamee tying Beiter with 56 career goals as the program’s all-time leader.

St. John Neumann has a five-game schedule this year, beginning with a home contest against New Covenant Academy at James Short Park on Saturday. The Golden Knights also will host Northumberland Christian on Monday, Sept. 20.

The other three games are road contests at New Covenant Academy (Monday, Sept. 20 and Thursday, Oct. 14) and at Columbia County Christian (Thur., Oct. 7)

Beiter was more than happy with what she saw from her team when preseason began.

“Lets just say when we began preseason, I was very impressed and couldn’t wait to get the season started,” Beiter said.
