District 4 soccer playoff bracket announced
The District 4 soccer playoffs begin this week for area boys and girls teams looking to win the district championship.
Muncy’s girls soccer team, which is in the postseason for the first time since 2017, hosts Millville in the first round of the District 4 Class A playoffs. The winner will face either Southern Columbia or Williamson on Saturday at a time and place to be determined.
In Class AA, Lewisburg and Warrior Run, two teams with solid defensive units this season, face off on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at Lewisburg at 4 p.m. The winner will face top-seeded Central Columbia on Saturday at a time and place to be determined.
Montoursville — which has outscored its opponents 74-11 and is riding an eight-game winning streak — has a bye into the quarterfinals and will play either Shamokin or Midd-West on Saturday.
Saturday’s quarterfinals also feature a great matchup between Milton and Hughesville. The Black Panthers are in the postseason for the third time in four seasons and are looking to win their first postseason game since 2018.
The Spartans are playoff bound for the second time in three years, and Hughesville is hoping to win the program’s first playoff game since 2013.
On the boys side, Muncy is the only area team in the District 4 Class A bracket and is hoping to make a run. The Indians face top-seeded Northumberland Christian on Saturday. It’s Muncy’s first playoff appearance since 2018, and the Indians have more wins this year than the last two seasons combined.
In Class AA, Lewisburg is the defending district and state champion and will be the team to beat in the field. The Green Dragons will await the winner of Wednesday’s Montoursville/Loyalsock matchup.
The Warriors (9-8) have been led by Dominick Pulizzi’s 14 goals and seven assists. The Lancers enter districts with an 8-8-1 record and are playoff bound for a fourth consecutive season.
A game featuring two offenses with plenty of fire power square off on Saturday in the quarterfinals as well between fourth-seeded South Williamsport and fifth-seeded Warrior Run.
The only play-in game in Class AA features North Penn-Liberty heading to Central Columbia on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The winner faces second-seeded Midd-West.
On the bottom half of the bracket, Milton and Wellsboro will face each other in the quarterfinals. Both the Black Panthers and Green Hornets feature solid offensive units.
• Muncy is seeded second in the District 4 Class A girls field hockey playoffs and faces seventh-seeded Mifflinburg on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Central Columbia.
