This week we remember 1976 local association Hall of Fame inductee William Hibschman. He came to Williamsport during the 1937-38 season, after starting his bowling career at the age of 16 in Reading, where he averaged as much as 206 and had a 704 series. In 1945, Hibschman was instrumental in getting a special sanction from the ABC to permit Black bowlers to bowl, which was two years before the ABC permitted this.
Hibschman was elected to the local association Board of Directors in 1946 and served as president during the 1953-54 season. He continued to attend board meeting as a past president into the 21st century. Hibschman won the local association tournament all event title in 1938 and 1954 and was on the championship team in 1949. His 199 average in the city league during the 1950-51 season was the top average in the local association that season.
Hope to see you on the lanes.
