Local roundup: South boys clinch Mid-Penn title by beating Sullivan

South Williamsport defeated Sullivan County, 4-1, in boys soccer on Friday afternoon to end the regular season with a 13-2 record and a 9-1 Mid-Penn record, giving the Mounties the league championship.

Hayden Swinehart had two goals and two assists, and Ben Manning had a goal and assist for the Mounties. Sullivan County’s Landon Baldwin scored with just one second remaining to avoid being shut out.

• In girls soccer, Peyton Meehan, Amaya Bower, Amara Bieber, Leah Grow and Alayna Wilkins all scored in Warrior Run’s 5-0 win against Jersey Shore. Gracie Welshans had 17 saves.

The win comes a day after Mikayla Long, Maria Bozella, Farida Aboueid, Caroline Blakeslee and Sophie Kilbride all scored in Lewisburg’s 5-0 win against the Bulldogs.

• LHU’s Gage Krall placed sixth at the PSAC championships with a time of 26:14.10 in men’s competition. On the women’s side, Cadie Kiser took seventh in 23:02.60. Mansfield’s Aneisa Dodson, a sophomore, crossed the finish line in 23:18.10 to earn first-team All-Conference honors, placing 11th. It’s the highest finish for a Mountie woman since Kenzie Jones took fifth in 2018.

“It feels really awesome,” Dodson said. “I worked really hard for this moment so I am happy that I executed the way that I wanted to.”
