South’s Piper Minier is named to USC All-Region II team

South Williamsport junior Piper Minier, who was voted Mid-Penn MVP and was an all-state selection at forward, earned yet another honor to her resume. The Mountie was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region II (East) team. Only 15 girls from Pennsylvania made the regional team, and just seven were forwards.

She was joined by Southern Columbia standout Loren Gehret on the 2021 team as representatives from District 4.

She is the first area player to be named to the USC Region II (East) team since Montoursville’s Lana Spitler in 2012 as a senior (forward). Minier is the first junior from District 4 to earn a spot on the team since Selinsgrove’s Ashley Dincher did so in 1999.

Minier is the second South player to earn honors, joining former standout Christa Matlack, who was named to the team in her senior season (2006).

The USC Region II (East) team first handed out awards in 1997 for both boys and girls, and has annually named players to its all-star team every year since.

Minier is just the ninth area player to ever be named to the team, joining Spitler (2012), Milton forward Caitlin Landis (2009), Matlack (2006), Williamsport defender Caitlyn Slattery (2006), Milton midfielder Courtney Landis (2004), Milton forward Chelsea Landis (2002), Loyalsock midfielder Mellisa Kellog (2001) and Lock Haven forward Katie Shrack (1997-98).

No area boys players were named to the 2021 USC All-Region II (East) team.
