Local roundup: Lewisburg boys clinch a District 4 Class AAAA playoff berth

Lewisburg won its fifth straight game and clinched a District 4 Class AAAA playoff berth, defeating Jersey Shore, 61-51, as all five starters scored at least nine points.

Jake Hernandez scored 15 points, Joey Martin 14, Khashaun Akins a career-high 14 and Cam Michaels and Forrest Zelechoski nine each. Lewisburg (11-2) led from the first quarter on. Tristan Gallick tried sparking a fourth-quarter comeback for Jersey Shore (4-10), hitting five of his six 3-pointers and scoring 15 of his game-high 22 points. Owen Bloom added seven points, nine rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Kaimen West scored a career-high 11 points.

Fourteen players scored for Montoursville and sophomores Bryce Eberhart and Quinn Ranck combined for 27, helping it defeat Millville, 72-44. Montoursville (7-7) reached a season-high in points and led 45-20 at halftime. The Warriors have won seven of their last 10 games and are 7-1 at home during that stretch.

Muncy scored at least 10 points in each of the first three quarters en route to a 49-36 win against East Juniata. Ross Eyer had another solid performance, scoring 19 points and Giovanni Persun added 10.

The win improves the Indians to 10-3.

• Playing without a starter and top reserve, Hughesville relied on stifling defense and edged Milton, 19-17. Grace Pysher helped spark that defense and pulled down 10 rebounds while adding three assists. Alli Anstadt scored a game-high eight points, added eight rebounds and made two steals. Hughesville led 7-6 at halftime and did not let Milton score more than six points in a quarter.

Despite a 13-point fourth-quarter effort, Lewisburg fell at home against Warrior Run, 37-29.

Alayna Wilkins led the Defenders with 11 points. Sophie Kilbride had 16 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists. Maria Bozella had a team-high seven rebounds and three steals.

• Millersville defeated Lock Haven, 71-49, in a PSAC men’s basketball contest to drop the Bald Eagles to 6-10 overall and 3-9 in the league.

Millersville had four players in double figures in Caden NNajdawi (14 points), Jaden Faulkner (13), James Sullivan (12) and Justin Nwosu (12).

Jesse McPherson posted a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double to lead the Bald Eagles. Eli Washington scored nine and DaQuan Granberry chipped in eight.

• Lock Haven defeated Millersville, 49-44, in women’s basketball thanks to Williamsport graduate Jaynelle Robinson scoring with a pair of layups in the waning minutes to break a late deadlock. With the win, the Bald Eagles are now 8-8 and 5-7 in the PSAC.

Robinson grabbed an impressive 16 rebounds — 12 off the defensive glass — and finished with a double-double thanks to scoring 13 points. Ahnera Parker had a near double-double as well with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Brooke Lawyer scored 11 for the Bald Eagles and Jacie Fetsko scored 10.
