Local roundup: Neumann coach Jamie Spencer earns 100th career victory

Hanief Clay scored 25 points and Davion Hill 24 as St. John Neumann won its fourth straight game and gave coach Jamie Spencer his 100th career victory, defeating Millville, 78-68. Clay also drained three 3-pointers and Naseer Dymeck scored 13 points as Neumann (8-2) took an 18-point lead into the fourth quarter. JerVal Weeks-Shuler continued his strong play and produced a season-high nine points.

Austin Kuhn scored a career-high 20 points and added eight rebounds as Montgomery won its second straight, defeating Benton on the road, 58-39. The Red Raiders (5-5) built a 45-21 halftime lead and Logan Almeida scored eight of his 10 points during a 27-point first quarter. Jacob Utter scored eight points and pulled down six rebounds as did Coltin Hans.

North Penn-Liberty put on a defensive clinic, holding explosive Cowanesque Valley to 12 second-half points in a 55-33 victory. CV had scored 85 points two nights earlier and McGwire Painter (59) and Tucker St. Peter (40) have the two biggest scoring performances by District 4 players this season. This time, NP-Liberty held them to 16 combined points and blew the game open in the second half. Hunter Thompson scored a game-high 19 points and added six rebounds. Noah Shedden nearly had a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds and Devin Bradley scored 10 points as NP-Liberty improved to 8-4.

Isaiah Niemczyk scored 24 points in three quarters and Canton won its sixth straight game, defeating Northeast Bradford, 44-32. The Warriors (9-3) led by 19 after three quarters and Caiden Williams scored eight points. Sam Abell had 15 for NEB.

Luke Delong hit five 3-pointers en route to a 21-point performance as Milton defeated Midd-West, 53-38. Jace Brandt also scored 18 for the Black Panthers.

Milton held a 21-13 lead after the first quarter and held the Mustangs to single digits in two quarters.

North Penn-Mansfield edged Towanda in an overtime thriller, 64-62. Karson Dominick scored an impressive 31 to lift the Tigers. Mansfield also received an 11-point performance from Brody Burleigh.

South Williamsport defeated Northwest in overtime, 47-44. Grant Bachman scored 14 points and Lee Habalar added 11 to help the Mounties win.

Ben Manning contributed seven.

• In girls basketball, Montoursville fell to Southern Columbia, 61-28. The Warriors were held to single digits in the final three quarters. Maddie Labatch scored 10 for Montoursville.

Lewisburg was held to just two second-half points in a 33-12 loss on the road at Selinsgrove. Sophie Kilbride and Kesley Baker led the Green Dragons with four points each. Lewisburg trailed by just two points at the half, but the Seals outscored the Green Dragons in the finaltwo quarters, 21-2.

• In college wrestling, Lock Haven split at the Virginia Duals, losing to No. 18 Oklahoma (24-15) before earning a win against Virginia, 28-20.

No. 27th-ranked Anthony Noto earned two wins on the afternoon. First he beat No. 23 Joey Prata of Oklahoma by decision, 8-3, before picking up a major decision win over Virginia’s Patrick McCormick, 18-5.

Isaac Reid, ranked No. 33 at 285, won via decision over No. 27 Josh Heindselman, 3-1, against Oklahoma.

In the dual vs. Virginia, four of Lock Haven’s wins came via forfeit. Lock Haven’s Gable Strickland lost to No. 14 Brian Courtney at 133 by decision, 5-0.
