Noah Shedden scored 18 points, 11 of which came in the first two quarters, and grabbed 10 rebounds as North Penn-Liberty defeated Northumberland Christian to win in the District 4 Class A semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

Hunter Thompson added 14 points and Kyle Davis added 10. Northumberland Christian was led by Luke Snyder’s 13 and Henry McElroy’s 11.

Derek Litzelman ended the game with a team-high five assists. In addition to his 10 rebounds, Shedden also had four assists, three steals and a block.

• Bucknell defeated Boston University, 89, 78, in a Patriot League men’s basketball contest at Sojka Pavilion. Five Bison scored in double digits.

Bucknell (8-22, 5-13 PL) was led by Xander Rice’s 19 points. Andrew Funk scored 15, while also having five assists and five rebounds, and both Alex Timmerman and Elvin Edmonds IV scored 13. Andre Screen added 10 points.

Javante McCoy scored 23 for Boston and Sukhmail Mathon scored 17 and had a team-high 13 rebounds.

After a back-and-forth opening 39 minutes that featured multiple leads from both teams, Mansfield closed out the game on a 9-1 run to secure a 75-68 victory over PSAC foe Shepherd.

Mansfield honored its graduating seniors Marcus Friend, Eli Alvin and Jordan Hernandez prior to the game.

Freshman Scott Woodring shot 73% (8 of 11) from the field to finish with 17 points, while grabbing a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore Jaz Farrell finished with 13 points after knocking down 3 of 5 shots from deep, while Friend and Justice Smith each added 11 points. Smith grabbed seven rebounds and Friend dished out a team-high nine assists and four steals.

To open the second half, both teams traded their first three baskets before Shepherd scored four-unanswered points to knot the game at 42-42 heading into the under-16 media timeout.

Lock Haven couldn’t overcome a fast-paced effort from Millersville as the Bald Eagles fell by an 85-50 score in PSAC action.

Lock Haven (11-15, 8-14 PSAC) scored the opening points of the game, but Millersville responded with eight unanswered points to pull away to an early lead. Millersville controlled the remainder of the opening half and took a 46-23 lead into the locker room.

Out of the halftime break, the Marauders opened up a 30-point lead midway through the second half and pulled away from the Bald Eagles down the stretch to end LHU’s regular season with an 85-50 loss.

Jesse McPherson led the Lock Haven offense with 16 points while Eli Washington rounded out a pair of players in double figures with 13.

• Williamsport graduate Jaynelle Robinson converted a conventional three point-play in the waning minutes of action to break a 57-57 deadlock as Lock Haven capped off the regular season in style with a 66-57 victory over Millersville in a women’s basketball PSAC contest.

Lock Haven’s (13-13, 10-12 PSAC) road win marked its fifth victory in six games and completed the season sweep of the Marauders. The Bald Eagles also ran their winning streak against Millersville to six games and put the finishing touches on the program’s third-straight season with double-digits in the wins column.

Lock Haven took the lead early on in a back-and-forth first half that saw six lead changes. Robinson knocked in a layup to open the scoring before a cold-streak from the floor allowed Millersville to take the lead.

Robinson led the Bald Eagles with 13 points, Ahnera Parker had an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double and Carly Fitzmorris added 10 points. Jackie Fetsko scored 12 off the bench and Brooke Lawyer chipped in nine.

Junior Alivia Paeglow scored a career-high 22 points and junior Jasmine Hilton pulled in a game-high 17 rebounds to give the Mansfield a chance to keep their PSAC postseason hopes alive into the closing seconds, but Shepherd held on to escape Decker Gymnasium with a 68-65.

The Mountaineers finish the 2021-22 season at 7-19 overall and 6-16 in the PSAC, improving their conference record by five wins to narrowly miss the postseason by one game. Shepherd improves to 22-6 overall and 16-6 in the PSAC and will compete in the conference tournament as the fifth seed next week.

Prior to the start of the contest, seniors Paige Whitfield, Sydney Reed, Kira Merritt and Hanna Johnson were honored.

Paeglow shot 10 of 15 on her career night, while pulling in seven rebounds and notching a steal. Hilton was a beast on the glass, pulling in a career-high 17 rebounds (six offensive), while adding 13 points. Whitfield also scored 13 points and dished out four assists, while Merritt knocked down two trifectas on her way to eight points and grabbed six rebounds.

• It took a bit of overtime for both of them, but junior heavyweight Connor Fulmer and sophomore 197-pounder Gable Crebs, a Montoursville graduate, both punched a ticket to the NCAA Division III Championship to highlight the Lycoming College wrestling team’s second day at the NCAA Southeast Regional.

The Warriors finished 10th in the 20-team field with 59 points, while Stevens (160.5), Alvernia (151) and Averett (127) made up the top three teams.

Fulmer, wrestling with a cut over his eye, that forced his head to be wrapped, gutted through the whole tournament, but still claimed the 285-pound championship thanks to two well-wrestled matches on Saturday.

In the semifinals, Fulmer gave up a first-period takedown, but used a second-period escape and riding time accumulated in the third period to reach overtime tied at 2. He won a scramble and fell on top of Alvernia’s Palmer Rodenhaber for a 4-2 win.

Crebs took a tougher road to earn the bid to nationals, but used a four-point first-period and a takedown in the third period to down Cameron Butka of Wilkes, 7-3, in the third-place match. He reached the round by taking down Washington & Jefferson’s Alex Donahue by major decision, 13-2, in the consolation semifinals after opening the day with a 14-10 loss to Camden Farrow of York in the semifinals.

Crebs improved to 27-5 on the season with the pair of wins, as he went 4-1 during the weekend.

Freshman Logan Bartlett, a Lewisburg graduate, dropped a pair of decisions in the 149-pound bracket on Saturday to finish eighth. He finished his rookie year with a 25-16 overall record.

• For the first time since 2007, Bucknell’s men’s lacrosse team is off to a 4-0 start. The Bison defeated Marist on the road, 15-7. Dutch Furlong had a seven-point outing with five goals and two assists. Alston Tarry scored four goals and Connor Davis had three.

Penn College lost to Albright on the road in a thrilling overtime contest, 11-10. QUinn Caviola scored three goals for the Wildcats and both Sam Hills and James Thatcher scored one.

Alex McKendry scored the game-winner for Albright as Jacob Cunningham had the assist.

• In women’s lacrosse, senor attacker Katie Wendall scored four goals and added two assists as Bucknell defeated Mid-American Conference champion Robert Morris, 17-6.

Now 1-1 on the season, the Bison were playing for the first time in two weeks after last Saturday’s game at Binghamton was called off due to icy field conditions. The Bison were raring to go in this one, piling up a 17-4 shot advantage in the first quarter. Bucknell’s 3-1 lead after 15 minutes might have been even wider if not for 10 first-quarter saves from Robert Morris goalie Jamie Keller. But two Colonials netminders combined for only four more saves the rest of the way as the Bison ran away with their largest victory margin since a 23-0 blanking of Howard early in the 2019 season.

Wendell recorded career highs for goals and points, with two of her tallies helping to stake the Bison to that first-quarter lead. Tatumn Kohlbrenner, who scored a career-high four goals in the season-opener against Canisius, added three more to her ledger. Laurel McHale, Allie Boyce, and Amy Roche all scored twice apiece as nine different Bucknell players registered a goal, and 12 had at least one point.

• The Bucknell women’s tennis team dispatched Saint Francis, 6-1. The Bison (7-1, 0-0 PL) extended their winning streak to five matches with their victory over the Red Flash (5-6, 0-0 NEC). It also represented their third triumph by five or more points.

At second singles, freshman Whitney King improved to 15-2 with a hard-fought three-set decision over Bente Vandeputte. After dropping the first set, 6-2, King rallied to win the next two by 6-2 and 10-3 margins.

Laurel Utterback returned to the lineup with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Valeria Vinces on the fourth court. First year Anna Lajos vaulted to 12-1 with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Nagisa Miyake at fifth singles.

Kate Novak defeated Marie Discini, 6-2, 7-5, in the sixth spot. On the first court, Daniela Bellini was up 6-3, 1-0 when All-NEC honoree Dominique Yeo retired.

• The Lock Haven men’s indoor track & field team return to indoor postseason competition as the Bald Eagles got off to a strong start on Day 1 of 2 at the 2021-22 PSAC indoor track and field championships.

Standout Ryan Miller ran the top time and qualified first for tomorrow’s 400-meter dash finals. He ran 49.43 in the today’s prelims.

Miller came back and qualified for the finals at 200 meters. In the prelims today, he ran 22.58.

John Davern put points on the board for Lock Haven after a strong showing in the 5,000-meter run. The Bald Eagle finished fourth of 16 in the 5K with a time of 15:22.85.

In women’s competition, standout-sprinter Riyana Owens of Lock Haven ran a 7.57 in the 60-meter dash prelims, putting her second overall heading into Sunday’s final. Her time broke her own school record and marks an NCAA provisional mark. In the 200, Owens ran 25.01, the second-fastest time of the prelims.

Billie Jo Bollinger qualified for the 60-meter hurdle finals as she ran a 9.29. Cadie Kiser finished eighth in the 5,0000-meter with a time of 18:.13.51.

• The Mansfield University baseball team had their top offensive performance in nearly eight years as they used 20 hits to score 19 runs on their way to a 19-17 victory over non-conference opponent Salem University in their second game of Day 1 at the Frank Loria Invitational. The Mounties fell, 12-2, to Ashland University in the morning.

The 19 runs scored in game two by the Mounties (2-5 overall) is the most since also scoring 19 in a victory over Penn College in 2014. The Mountaineers’ 20 hits were the most in a game since belting out 23 in a victory over Rockhurst in 2016.

The Mounties finished with six doubles, a triple and a homer to total 18 RBI on 20 runs scored. Six different Mountaineers drove in multiple runs, led by Freedman with four RBI and freshman Shay Gustafson (2 for 6, run), sophomore Marcus Nales (3 for 5, three runs, two doubles) and senior Ben Osborne (3 for 5, two runs), who each drove in three.

Senior Cole Shomper had his best game as a Mountaineer, finishing 3 for 6 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore Zachary Shertzer also finished with three hits adding two RBI, a double and team-high four runs scored. Sophomore Dylan Mercedes finished with the team’s lone triple, while senior Brady Mengal rounded out the multi-hit efforts with two singles, a run scored and RBI. Senior Assaf Lowengart doubled and scored twice.

• The Bucknell men’s swimming and diving team had three individuals and one relay team capture silver medals on the second day of the ECAC Championships.

All-Patriot League First Team members Chris Fabian (100 backstroke), John Gehrig (100 butterfly) and Chris Kopac (400 IM) all raced to runner-up showings, helping the Bison rise to third in the team standings with 244.5 points, 4.5 shy of second-place Columbia.

In addition, Kopac teamed with Sean Quinn, Alec Baker and Ed Park for a silver showing in the 800 freestyle relay.

Beyond Fabian, Gehrig and Kopac, 10 Bison qualified for Saturday’s finals. Among them were all three of Kopac’s 800 freestyle relay teammates: Quinn, ninth in the 100 butterfly, Park, 14th in the 400 IM, and Baker, 16th in the 100 backstroke.

On the women’s side, Bucknell moved up to fifth on the ECAC Championships’ second day.

The Bison, who jumped up two spots from seventh, were bolstered by having two relay teams take fourth and by placing five individuals in the finals.

Alexis Faria was Bucknell’s top individual performer, clocking the program’s second-fastest time (54.79) en route to a fourth-place effort in the 100 butterfly.

The Bison took fourth in both the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays. Of those relay members, Sabrina Vumbacco, sixth in the 200 freestyle, Maddie Hartigan, 10th in the 100 butterfly, and Alexandra Ritorto, 12th in the 100 breaststroke, also netted points in individual races.
