Local roundup: South softball tops Westerville, Ohio, in Myrtle Beach

South Williamsport exploded for nine first-inning runs and made quick work of Westerville, Ohio, Thursday at Myrtle Beach, winning 13-5.

The Mounties produced 10 hits and played strong defense behind pitcher Aleigha Rieppel who earned the win. South beat a team with an enrollment of 1,800 and is now 3-1 in Myrtle Beach with its final game there coming this morning.

Claire Alexander smashed two triples and Abby Lorson two doubles. Sage Lorson also had two hits and drove in three runs, while Olivia Beck, Alizabeth Schuler and Kendall Cardone all had RBI hits.

• Williamsport defeated Shikellamy, 5-0, in boys tennis. Kyle Shuler picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win against Jack Weaver at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, Shreshth Sing won, 6-3, 6-3.

The duo of Evan Beiter and Ben Manetta won, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles against Fernando Nunez and Kaden Gold.
