Williamsport City Lion men earn road win; women tie last year’s league champs

A 1-0 win against Philadelphia Lonestars II on Sunday afternoon on the road helped the Williamsport City Lions stay at the top of the United Premier Soccer League Division I Northeast-American (South) standings.

With the victory, Williamsport is 5-0-0, above CD Catrachos PA (3-2-1), New Jersey Alliance FC II (2-1-1) and Allentown United U23 (2-0-2).

The goal was scored in stoppage time by Loyalsock graduate Brady Dowell off an assist by Tevin Beadle. Goalie Alastair Stark was in goal for the shutout and recorded five saves.

Williamsport has the longest winning streak in the league at five. CD Catrachos PA is sitting at three consecutive wins.

The men’s team recorded a forfeit victory on Saturday against Catrachos PA. Williamsport graduates and brothers Tom and Kolachi Pombor both scored for the City Lions prior to the match being called.

The Williamsport City Lions women’s team tied New York Magic, last year’s league champions, 1-1, on the road. Loyalsock graduate Juliana Cruz scored Williamsport’s lone goal off an assist by Jersey Shore graduate Maddie Miahle.

The women play at Loyalsock High School on June 4 and 5 against Inter AC and Westchester United FC, respectively. The men’s next game is Sunday on the road against CD Catrachos PA. Williamsport plays at home on June 4 against Club Tijuana Xolos USA prior to the women’s game as part of a doubleheader.
