Crosscutters fall on the road at Mahoning Valley 15-8
Williamsport came up just shy on the road in Mahoning Valley, losing to the Scrappers, 15-8, in a high-scoring game. The two teams combined to hit five home runs.
Williamsport took an early 2-0 lead with a two-run shot from shortstop Josue Urdaneta. The Scrappers though would take the lead with an eight-run second inning to go up by six. The Cutters added three in the fourth to pull within 8-6, but the Scrappers scored two in the third and a run in each of the following three innings.
Mahoning Valley added two more in the bottom of the eighth and finished with three homers.
Designated hitter Isaac Nunez blasted a two-run home run in the seventh inning and added two runs and the Cutters added one more in the eighth.
Nick Palumbo earned the loss on the Mound. Williamsport is off Sunday and Monday before returning to Bowman Field for a three-game series with Virginia beginning Tuesday. All three games are scheduled for 6:35 p.m. starts. It’s Williamsport’s first game at Bowman since Sunday, June 19.
