Keystone’s Bryan Rote strikes out 10 in no-hit win against Montoursville in 9-11 tourney

In the first round of the District 12 9-11 baseball tournament on Friday, Keystone defeated Montoursville, 13-0, in just four innings, to advance to the winners’ bracket final on Friday. The loss drops Montoursville into an elimination game on Thursday against East Lycoming.

Keystone took a 2-0 lead after the second inning and scored three in the third to go up, 5-0. It was the fourth inning, however, in which Keystone did most of its damage, scoring eight runs to put the mercy rule into effect and ending the game after just four innings.

Bryan Rote threw all four innings for Keystone, recording a no-hitter in the process. Colten Watson earned the loss.

Rote went 2 for 3 with two home runs, four RBIs and two runs scored.E van Batterson was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, a home run and two runs, Carter Frank went 1 for 3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored and Hayden Hanley went 1 for 1.

Keystone also was led by Trey Lapp (1 for 2, double, RBI, run), Landon Jones (1 for 1, double, run), Logan Bower (1 for 3, RBI, run) and Evan Edwards (two walks, two runs).

Montoursville’s Logan Bruscoe and Chayce Scampone reached base thanks to being walked.

Of Keystone’s 12 outs, 10 were strikeouts by Rote.
