Crosscutters lose on the road at Trenton 6-3 on Friday

TRENTON — Williamsport lost its first game of the second half of the MLB Draft League in a road contest against the Trenton Thunder, 6-3. It was a pitcher’s duel for the first five innings before Trenton broke the deadlock with a five-run sixth inning.

Crosscutters starter Blair Frederick struck out five over five innings, scattering four hits. He worked his way out of bases-loaded jams in the third and fifth innings. Trenton starter William Saxton threw six scoreless innings.

Trenton broke the game open in the sixth by scoring five runs. Trenton scored a run on a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch before Dilan Espinal hit a three-run home run for a 5-0 lead.

Crosscutters catcher Jake Urena hit an RBI single in the seventh to make the game 5-1. Trenton restored its five-run lead in the eighth on an RBI single from Kolby Blanchard. The Crosscutters received two more runs in the ninth on a groundout and a fielding error to make it 6-3.
