Keystone’s 9-11 baseball team opens state tournament with a win
Keystone’s 9-11 baseball team opened the Pennsylvania state tournament with a close game against DuBois, 7-4, which only went five innings. With the win, Keystone advances to the winners’ bracket semifinals on Sunday.
The winners’ bracket final is scheduled for Tuesday and the championship game will be played on Thursday, with an “if” game set for Friday if necessary.
Keystone took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and then went ahead 5-0 with a four-run bottom of the second. DuBois battled back, scoring four in the third inning to cut the deficit to just one run.
Keystone added two insurance runs in the fourth inning, however, and held on for the win.
DuBois was held to just four hits as Keystone collected 12. Of Keystone’s 12 hits, all were singles except for a double by Carter Frank (3 for 4, RBI, 2 runs).
Keystone’s Evan Edwards led the team by going 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Logan Bower was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Bryan Rote was 2 for 3 with an RBI and run scored, Heath Marino went 1 for 2 with a run scored and Angelo Tarantella went 1 for 2 with a run scored.
Keystone threw four pitchers as Edwards, Fuller, Smith and Rote combined in the win. Edwards started and threw 2 2/3 innings, striking out six and allowing just two hits.
