Williamsport Crosscutters defeat Trenton Thunder on Saturday night 6-4

The Williamsport Crosscutters won their second straight game against the Trenton Thunder to win a weekend series with a 6-4 victory on Saturday night. Starter Brandon Kaminer threw six scoreless innings, allowing three hits before Trenton had a late rally.

The Cutters led off the game with three consecutive hits. The third, a double by third baseman EJ Taylor, drove in a run. First baseman Nick Hussey hit into a groundout to advance a run home for a 2-0 lead. Kaminer struck out eight batters, getting two outs in each of the second, third and fourth innings. Williamsport added to its lead in the top of the fifth with an RBI single by Hussey for a 3-0 lead.

Trenton got back within two runs on a triple by Ryan McCarthy in the eighth to make the game 3-2. The Cutters responded wtih three runs in the ninth. Williamsport got assistance on fielding errors in three consecutive at-bats that scored each run, making it a 6-2 lead.

Trenton would score twice in the bottom of the ninth off a sacrifice fly and a single to cut the deficit to two, but Christian Lopez would strike out two batters to help close the game and secure the Crosscutters’ victory.
