Lyco field hockey’s Marines earns Landmark Offensive Athlete of the Week honors

After posting two goals against both Wilkes and Drew last week, Lyco junior Riley Marines earned the Landmark Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week award, announced Monday.

In the tenth minute of the first quarter on Tuesday evening, Oct. 22, Marines posted the Warriors’ first goal against Wilkes, tipping the ball into the net off a penalty corner. With eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Marines fired in a penalty stroke, which helped secure the Warriors’ 3-1 victory and seal the program’s school-record eighth victory of the year.

On Saturday afternoon, Marines notched two of the Warriors’ three goals against Drew, scoring off another penalty stroke early in the third quarter before adding another tally in the 57th minute off a corner.

Marines, who entered the week with three goals in her career, is now second on the team with six goals and three assists for a total of 15 points. With her eight points during the week, she now has 20 points in her career with seven goals and six assists.

The Warriors return to UPMC Field today for the regular-season finale against third-place University of Scranton, needing a win to keep the team’s Landmark Conference Championship hopes alive. The game kicks off at 7 p.m.
