Warrior women’s XC eighth, men tenth in Landmark pre-championships polls

The Lycoming College women’s cross country team was picked to finish eighth in the Landmark Conference Pre-Championship poll and the men’s team was picked tenth, the conference office has announced.

The 2024 Landmark Conference Men’s Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Union Canal Tunnel Park in Lebanon, with the women’s 6K race at 11 a.m., the men’s 8K race at 12 p.m. and the awards ceremony at approximately 1:15 p.m.

Lycoming wrapped up 2023 on a historic high, achieving its best finish in both the conference championship (sixth) and the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional (23rd) in the program’s 40-year history.

Leading the Warriors is senior Katryn Yocum, the program’s only three-time all-conference runner in a 43-season history. Her school-record 6,000-meter time of 22:51.4 earned her 44th place at the 2023 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, and she became the first Warrior to receive USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete honors. Yocum has had an outstanding senior year, winning two events and finishing in the top 15 at all six events the team has participated in.

Yocum is backed by a strong returning group, including sophomore Ella Scott, seniors Maddy O’Connor and Isabella Fave, and sophomore Sydney Taylor, all of whom contributed to Lycoming’s historic NCAA Mid-Atlantic performance. Sophomore newcomer Gwyn Fox has also been a key factor in the team’s scoring throughout the year.

Moravian topped both the men’s and women’s poll, with Scranton taking second in women’s and Elizabethtown taking second in men’s.

Sophomore and Hughesville grad Kenny Draper has led the men all season, posting two top-five finishes and notching a season-best time of 28:19.1 at the Dutchmen XC Invite at Union Canal on Sept. 7.

Starting at $2.99/week.
