Johnson earns Landmark weekly honor with Lycoming

Freshman linebacker Khalil Johnson picked up the Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week honors after he helped the Lycoming College football team force three of its five turnovers in a 45-0 win at Juniata, the conference office announced on Monday.

Johnson notched three tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble in the win over the Eagles, as Lycoming forced a season-high five turnovers in its second shutout of the season.

He forced his first turnover, by forcing a fumble at the Juniata 40 in the second quarter that was picked up by sophomore Jordan Rhinehart. He then dominated the third quarter of the win against the Eagles, picking off his first pass at the Lycoming-25 yard line and returning it 40 yards and intercepted his second pass while the Warriors were facing 3-and-goal at the five-yard line, picking off a pass at the two-yard line and returning it 53 yards.

Johnson is the Warriors first’ defensive athlete of the week since Rhinehart earned the award on Oct. 24, 2023. He is the team’s third Landmark Athlete of the Week of the year, joining Special Teams’ Athlete of the Weeks Tyler Marshall and Kyle Flack.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Nov. 9, with a 12 p.m. Landmark Conference game at Moravian University.

Starting at $2.99/week.
