South falls to Troy in District 4 Class AA quarterfinals
A 42-point first-quarter proved to be a monumental hole that South Williamsport couldn’t claw back from as top-seeded and state-ranked Troy defeated the Mounties, 63-27, in the District 4 Class AA quarterfinals on Friday.
Lincoln Chimics had back-to-back pick-six returns to give Troy a 21-0 lead just four minutes into the game. Brendan Gilliland had a 52-yard run with 10:41 to play for a 7-0 lead and just 14 seconds later, Chimics returned an interception for a fast 14-0 lead.
With five minutes left in the first, Kael Millard had a 17-yard touchdown run for a 28-0 lead. The Trojans made it 35-0 when Evan Woodward caught a 28-yard touchdown from Chimics and then it was 42-0 thanks to a 5-yard run by Jack Burbage.
South Williamsport avoided the shutout when Tadd Lusk had a 1-yard run with 5:11 to play until halftime. But, three minutes later, Troy responded wtih another touchdown, this time a 30-yard run by Jayden Kutt.
South Williamsport scored twice in the fourth quarter. Cade Lusk had a 10-yard run wtih 9:42 to play and then had a 43-yard run with 4:18 to play.
