Today we remember 1997 local Hall of Fame inductee Betts Scarborough. With over 50 career 600 series, including her career high of 677, Scarborough was a member of the state and national 600 clubs, as well as the local Susquehanna Chapter, where she was a regular participant in the monthly sweepers.

She won Bowler of the Week honors several times. Betts achieved her career high average of 187 while bowling on the all-women’s team in the otherwise all men’s Faxon Major League. Her career high game was 274. Scarborough started her bowling carer at the age of 17 at the Montgomery Bowling Lanes under the direction of Max Cole.

After participating in her first adult league at the Moose Lanes, Betts went on to organize her own team in two leagues at Faxon and bowled in the Thursday Mom’s League, winning several league championships along the way. Scarborough participated in the city tournament for 22 years, and was a frequent entrant in Lebanon’s annual Dutchman Tournament and the Scranton Idle Hour Lanes Tournament.

Hope to see you on the lanes.
