Lycoming women come up just shy against Drew in Landmark game

In a game with 11 lead changes and five ties, senior Ashley Yoh led the Lycoming College women’s basketball team’s efforts with 14 points and 10 rebounds as Drew University took the last lead and held on for a 67-63 decision in Landmark Conference action on Saturday at Lamade Gym.

To begin the fourth quarter, the Warriors (1-5 overall, 1-3 Landmark Conference) held a lead of 49-48, and the Warriors ran with Yoh hitting a layup and freshman Jocelyn McCracken, a Jersey Shore graduate, adding a layup and free throw. Drew (5-2 overall, 3-1 Landmark Conference) was able to take control with a run of a 3-pointer, jumper, layup, and five free throws, claiming a 63-58 advantage with only three minutes left on the clock.

Senior Meghan Dufner hit a layup and added a 3-pointer in the last minutes of play, but the Rangers were able to hit four more free throws to keep the Warriors’ at bay.

To kick off the game, junior Allison Fisher hit a 3-pointer, assisted by McCracken, and two minutes later, senior Mya Wetzel posted another, which brought Lycoming’s lead to 6-2. Junior Kami Abdo added another 3-pointer for the Warriors five minutes into play, reclaiming the lead, 11-10. The Warriors ended the first quarter with an 18-14 lead after a tip-in, two layups, and a free throw in the last two minutes.

McCracken and Yoh each hit a layup in the first three minutes of the second quarter as Drew attempted to close the gap. Fisher threw a 3-pointer into the net in the fourth minute and Dufner followed up with a layup a minute later. Wetzel added another three with two minutes remaining, but the Warriors trailed by four at the end of the half with Drew claiming a 37-33 lead.

The Warriors reclaimed the lead in the third quarter, as Fisher began the period by hitting a jumper and a 3-pointer. Hartman also contributed two free throws, a jumper, and a layup in the period.

Yoh led the team with 14 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and one block. Fisher secured 12 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Dufner added nine points and three steals and Hartman contributed eight points and five rebounds. McCracken added seven points and Wetzel’s two 3-pointers helped her finish with six.

For Drew, Gianna Pica led the team with 20 points and eight rebounds. Both Amy Rachilla and Alice Altomare had 13 points and Brenna Hazel finished with nine points and 11 rebounds. Maddie Beyer notched five assists and Miabella Diaz added five steals.
