Lycoming earns over 20 personal records at Landmark Championships in swimming

BALTIMORE, Md. — Sophomore Gwyn Fox, junior Megan Lonergan, sophomore Drew Degnan and freshman Sean Martinez set personal-best times in their individual events on Sunday at Mangione Aquatic Center on Loyola University’s campus, helping lead the Lycoming College swimming teams to over 20 personal records this weekend at the Landmark Conference Championships.

Sophomore Londyn Snyder swam the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:50.16. Snyder returned for the 200 fly consolation final with a 2:53.41 finish, earning her 12th place in the event.

Sophomores Megan Klansek and Anasten Holbrook both competed in the 200-yard backstroke. Klansek recorded a time of 2:41.30, and Holbrook followed up with a 3:11.04 finish, placing the swimmers in 13th and 14th place respectively. Both women qualified for the event consolation finals, where Klansek finished in 13th with a 2:39.19 and Holbrook recorded a 14th-place finish with a time of 2:50.78.

Fox swam in the 100 free preliminaries with a 58.39 finish, improving her previous personal record from the Electric City Invitational (58.96) by 0.57 seconds. Later in the day, Lonergan clocked a personal-best 20:22.70 in the 1,650 free.

In the 200 breast, freshman Madison Robbins, a Wellsboro graduate, recorded a 2:54.58 finish.

The Warrior women’s team of Fox, Robbins, Klansek and Lonergan clocked a 4:06.36 finish in the 400 free relay, placing ninth in the event.

For the men, freshman Sean Martinez posted a personal-best 18:58.05 in the 1,6500 free, earning a 17th-place finish.

Degnan led the Warriors in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.96, setting a personal record by 0.11 seconds. Senior Brian Hulsey followed in the 100-yard freestyle with a 1:01.24 finish, and sophomore Tyler Bronson rounded out Lycoming’s competitors in the 100 free, finishing with a time of 1:14.10.

The relay squad of Martinez, Degnan, Bronson and Hulsey finished the 400 free relay with a ninth-place finish and a 3:54.15 time.

Over the four-day Landmark Conference Championships, three swimmers set three personal-best times. Fox notched personal records in the 200 free (2:08.96), the 500 free (5:52.18) and the 100 free (58.39). Martinez secured personal bests in the 200 free (1:50.04), the 500 free (5:04.79) and the 1,650 free (18:58.05). Degnan also notched a personal best in the 100 fly (56.46), the 50 free (23.24) and the 100 free (50.96).

Four swimmers — Klansek, Robbins, Lonergan and Bronson — finished with two new personal-best times. For the women, Klansek earned two personal-best times in the 100 back (1:11.64) and the 50 free (27.91), and Robbins finished with a personal best in the 100 breast (1:15.45) and the 50 free (27.33). Lonergan swam a personal-best finish in the 500 free (5:49.12) and the 1,650 free (20:22.70). On the men’s side, Bronson set personal bests in the 200 free (2:38.98) and the 50 free (31.59).
