Three Lycoming men’s players in double figures to post 73-64 win over Goucher
TOWSON, Md. – Sophomore Connor Shanahan led a group of three Lycoming College men’s basketball team players in double figures with 19 points as a hot-shooting effort helped it to a 73-64 Landmark Conference win over Goucher College on Saturday.
Shanahan finished 6 of 14 from the field and 6 of 10 from the line to finish with 19 points while adding five rebounds for the Warriors (3-18 overall, 2-12 Landmark). The Warriors led by nine with 1:40 left and were aided by a Goucher shot that died on the rim for an offensive deadball. The Gophers closed within seven twice and got within five with 35 seconds left at 69-64, but the Warriors scored the last four points, with Layton dropping in a fastbreak layup with 1.8 seconds left to seal the win.
Goucher opened the first half on a 9-2 run to cut the Warriors’ lead to 40-32 with 16:08 left, but a 3-pointer from Valentine started a five-point run that got the lead back into double figures, expanding to 16 points off a layup from Layton with 10:54 left. Goucher finally cut the lead to nine at 64-55 with 3:07 left and closed within seven before a pair of free throws from Shanahan with 1:34 left.
The Warriors jumped out of the gate on a 20-4 run, as Shanahan scored the team’s first five points and had seven during the run to match Komitski. Goucher scored the next nine points to cut within seven with 7:17 left in the half before a Layton jumper ended the run. After trading buckets for the next couple minutes, the Warriors got jumpstarted again off a 3-pointer from sophomore Ethan Bomgardner, starting an 18-7 run capped by a steal and layup from Miller with 14 seconds left. A last-second 3-pointer helped the Gophers cut the lead to 38-23 at the break.
