Golf tip of the week: Connection is the key to a good golf swing

PHOTO PROVIDED The knees and elbows push toward each other, creating connection.

A golfer should utilize the inside muscles of the arms and legs to create a connection.

The elbows should remain the same distance apart throughout the swing by pushing them toward each other. The upper arm muscles stay connected to the upper chest area. This will place the golf shaft in the proper plane during the swing, causing the golf club to travel the route of least resistance.

The knees should be pushed slightly toward each other to ensure stability. Imagine you are holding a basketball between your knees. The golf swing is nothing more than an athletic move, as is baseball, tennis, or any other sport involving propelling an object with an implement.

Staying connected will help you enjoy this great game called golf.
