Hughesville track and field sees success in home dual vs. Mifflinburg
HUGHESVILLE — Hughesville’s boys and girls track and field teams saw plenty of success all around in a home dual meet against Mifflinburg on Tuesday afternoon as three Spartans claimed two victories each.
In addition, the Spartans saw a school record fall.
In the girls 400 relay, the team of Katelyn Temple, Sierra DeWire, Avery Puderbach and Kylie Temple ran a time of 50.07, breaking the mark the foursome of Katelyn Temple, DeWire, Bryn Derrick and Kyle Temple set last year of 50.10.
Hughesville freshman Triston Richmond picked up two victories, claiming wins in both the 800 and 1,600. In the 800, Richmond ran a 2:22.69 and won the 1,600 in 5:05.58.
Hughesville junior Kylie Temple claimed two victories in Tuesday’s dual as well. She won the 200 in 25.86 in girls competition, edging Makenna Fogle of Mifflinburg by nearly a second. In the 300 hurdles, Temple ran a 45.66 to win by nearly four seconds over Mifflinburg’s Jayda Tilghman.
Hughesville senior Ava Snyder won the discus as she threw a distance of 89-2 and won by just under two feet over Mifflinburg freshman Emily Aikey. In the javelin, Snyder threw a distance of 85-8 to win by just six inches over teammate Anna Easton.
In the girls shot put, Aubrey Hamm of Hughesville won with a throw of 29-5 as Snyder took second (27-10 1/2).
The Spartans finished 1-2 in the girls 1,600 with Vivian Draper winning in 5:49.37 while Grace Fortin took second in 5:59.81. Hughesville also went 1-2-3 in the girls 3,200 event.
Laura Ochs won in 12:34.13 followed by Evelynn Meckbach (13:29.60) and Ellie miller (14:25.71).
Hughesville’s Luke Stutzman ran an 11.87 to win the boys 100 and the Spartans’ Spencer Stine ran a 22.80 for a victory in the boys 200. Jakob Charles ran a 57.25 for Hughesville to win the boys 400. The Spartans’ Brady Morgan won the boys 300 hurdles in 42.79.
In field events, the Spartans saw Owen Wettlaufer jump a distance of 39 feet, 9 1/2 inches for a win in the boys long jump and Hughesville senior Keagan Smith cleared 12-0 to win the boys pole vault competition.
Hughesville senior Deja Roark won the girls pole vault by clearing 8-0.
