LEWISBURG — A fourth quarter 9-0 Bison run wouldn’t be enough for Bucknell as the Bison (3-4) fell to former player Monique LeBlanc’s Brown Bears (5-2) 61-50 on Friday afternoon in Sojka. Brown opened the game on a 12-2 run and were able to maintain that lead to get the victory over a Bison squad that was previously 2-0 at home.

Reese Zemitis and Mariah Hardy led the Bison in scoring with 11 points each. The 11 points is a new career-high for Hardy. The freshman led the team in rebounds with a career-high nine, blocks with a career-high two and recorded her first collegiate three-pointer. Hardy shot 4-for-5 from the field, 1-for-1 from three and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line.

Hope Masonius got her first collegiate points in the third quarter of the contest with a turnaround jumper. The sophomore has battled injuries throughout her time with the Bison and got back on the court in the Tuesday game against Le Moyne before scoring her first collegiate bucket against Brown.

Ella Kruezer led the team in steals with a career-high four and Tuana Coskun led the team in assists with three. The Bison shot 32.8% from the field, 80% from the free-throw line and 19% from three in the loss.

The opening five minutes went fully in Brown’s favor as the Bears outshot Bucknell 12-2 ahead of the media timeout. Coskun was the lone Bison to score before the break with a driving layup. Out of the timeout, the shooting was lacking on both ends of the court with several missed opportunities due to a fast pace that developed. The Bison saw points from Kreuzer on two free-throws and a jumper from Houghton, while the Bears ended the quarter with a three-pointer to extend their lead to 17-6.

Hardy opened the second quarter for Bucknell with her career-first three-pointer. Brown answered and the game was going back-and-forth with Coskun hitting two shots for the Bison, before the Bears went on a 7-0 run into the second quarter media timeout. The Bears then outscored the Bison 6-3 in the remainder of the quarter to go into halftime with a 34-17 lead.

The third quarter began with a competitive first five minutes as the Bears only outshot the Bison 15-10. Casey hit two layups and Zemitis and Richards each hit one of their own ahead of the media timeout. Out of the break, Richards and Hardy hit back-to-back shots before Brown answered with a layup. Masonius then hit a turnaround jumper to get her first career points as a Bison. Moreland ended the quarter with a basket to extend Brown’s lead to 55-31.

The fourth quarter opened with a back-and-forth couple baskets before Bucknell went on a 9-0 run. Brown broke the streak with a layup with 2:35 left to play. Out of a Brown timeout, Bucknell ended the game on a 6-0 run, but would ultimately fall 61-50 to the Bears.

Bucknell stays at home to close out its three-game homestand against UAlbany at 6 p.m. on Monday in Sojka Pavilion.
