Golf tip of the week: Push the knees out for greenside bunker shots

PHOTO PROVIDED Pushing the knees toward each other will enable leg drive push them apart will create less leg action.

Leg drive is not necessary for short bunker shots, such as those 30 yards or closer. Keeping the knees quiet will prevent the body from overreacting when executing the shorter sand shots.

The amount of sand when hitting close to the green should be gauged by the length and depth of the sand divot. A good barometer is to take approximately a divot the size of a dollar bill. The closer to the ball that the sand iron contacts the sand, the further the ball will travel. The deeper the divot, the softer the ball will land. Maintain the upper body elevation, as if your head were touching the bottom of a diving board throughout the shot.
