ASHLAND — Before they got on the bus to head to North Schuylkill on Tuesday evening, Muncy’s players were honored with a walk through in the halls to cheering and applauding classmates as they prepared to face District 1 champion Faith Christian in the PIAA Class A semifinals.
And then once at the game, Muncy’s fans showed up well and sat through brutal winds and freezing temperatures to cheer on the Indians.
That’s life in Muncy. Where the team goes, the fans aren’t far behind.
“We do have tons of fans, that’s amazing,” Muncy senior Ella Nagel said. “We had a walk through before we left school today which was amazing. I love all the support from our community, it just means everything to have them behind us.”
“We put a pep bus together in two days, which is crazy. The fans, Muncy travels, I always said that. You work hard and you play hard and you play the right way, do things the right way, Muncy travels. The community is behind them 100% and has been since Day 1,” Muncy coach Jason Gresh said.

Any game this year at Ward L. Myers Elementary School saw parking spaces at a minimum as fans showed up to support Muncy. Whether it was a lopsided 7-0 win by the Indians at home or a overtime contest, the fans came and watched the Indians play.
Those fans showed up throughout districts and witnessed the program’s first district title and on Tuesday in bitter temperatures, the fans showed up one last time for Muncy.
“You look up at the hill on home days and you’re amazed by the number of people who are there watching them play. Even games we know we’re going to win by four, five, six seven goals, they still show up and support and are cheering their butts off,” Gresh said.
Muncy may have lost on Tuesday in the PIAA Class A semifinals to a great Faith Christian team, 3-0, but Muncy’s fans never stopped cheering on the Indians and gave them a well-deserved round of applause when the final horn sounded.
It was more than deserved after the outstanding season the Indians had put together.

Muncy won the program’s first District 4 championship this year, claimed a second consecutive Mid-Penn title, won its first state playoff game and reached the PIAA Class A semifinals, becoming the first girls team in Muncy in any sport to reach the Final Four.
“It’s so hard in the moment, right? It’s one of those things they’ll look back maybe Christmas time, have a little bit of time to reflect. Many of them are moving right onto the next sport. Basketball starts Friday, so they’ll be in the gym and working,” Gresh said. “The accomplishments, the bar that they set, what they’ve accomplished is just unbelievable.”
“We’ve done so many great things that we haven’t done before, so I’m really glad that we’ve done that and looking back, I think we’ll be really happy with what I’ve done, we’ve done, anything just looking back,” Nagel said. “We won our first district title ever in school history and then made it to the Final Four which we’ve never done in school history. It’s just amazing.”
Muncy’s fans more than know that too and were there every step of the way this year to watch the Indians keep upping the bar and making more and more history.
“These girls are loved and they know it,” Gresh said. “I love each and every one of them. The coaching staff loves each and every one of them, and the community does as well.”

And Muncy’s players love their fans and that community support. There’s no doubt about that.
