Lycoming’s Crum, Zeigler place at RIT Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior 184-pounder Eli Crum posted a second-place finish and junior 174-pounder Nolen Zeigler took third to highlight the Lycoming College wrestling team’s efforts at the RIT Invitational on Saturday at the Gordon Field House.

Crum, ranked 17th in Division III by Open Mat, was seeded second in the tournament and lived up to the billing after posting a fall against John Carroll’s Alex Drees, tech falling Wesleyan’s Roman Martinez, 16-0, and pinning Williams’ Zach Borzio in the semifinal. In the final, he faced 10th-ranked Jamie Evarts of Williams. Crum got in on a deep single in the third period, but Evarts was able to ward off the takedown and hold on for the win.

Zeigler, seeded third in the tournament, also lived up to the billing, as he posted tech falls of John Carroll’s Niko Kalamaras and Trinity’s Liam Holden before posting an 8-5 win over RIT’s Jack Lamson in the quarterfinal. After a loss to second-seeded Henry Foote in the semifinal, he rebounded with a pin of Trinity’s John Lagana and a 7-3 decision over Lamson in the third-place match.

Freshmen 133-pounder Luke Magnani and heavyweight Howard Brambley each also won three matches, with Brambley providing three pins.

The Warriors are back in action after final exams this week, heading to Oswego, N.Y., for duals with Oswego and Brockport on Sunday, Dec. 14
