PIAA has third and final reading for shot clock in PA beginning in 2028-29 season

Basketball fans in Pennsylvania no longer have to keep asking when the PIAA will implement a shot clock for high school basketball. The answer is finally here: 2028-2029 school year.

The PIAA had a third and final reading to implement the shot clock for boys and girls varsity and junior varsity basketball games beginning in the 2028-29 school year.

The reading came at the PIAA’s latest board meeting on Wednesday in Mechanicsburg.

Pennsylvania will become the 33rd state to implement a shot clock for high school basketball in addition to the District of Columbia.

Also in the board meeting was an approval for a request concerning cooperative sponsorship of a sport involving District 4’s Wellsboro and North Penn-Liberty for girls wrestling and for Williamson and Cowanesque Valley to cooperatively sponsor girls wrestling.

Canton and Troy had an approval of request for cooperative sponsorship of a sport beginning in 2026-27 for high school golf; Towanda and Northeast Bradford had approval for cooperatively sponsoring swimming and diving; and Canton and Troy will cooperatively sponsor girls golf.
