Montgomery boys wrestling has eight earn Mid-Penn all-star nods
Montgomery had a ton of success this year when it comes to boys wrestling. The Red Raiders won the District 4 Class AA Duals tournament and reached states, and individually, sent numerous to the district and regional tournaments.
So it’s no surprise that the Red Raiders saw eight wrestlers earn Mid-Penn boys wrestling all-star honors.
Brandt Harer of Montgomery, who became the district’s all-time wins leader and state all-time wins leader, was named Mid-Penn MVP while Montgomery’s Denny Harer was named Mid-Penn Coach of the Year.
Montgomery’s Gabe Oberheim 9114 pounds), Liam Seeley (121), Carden Wagner (127), Harer (145), Trace Furman (152), Josh Knoebel 9160) and Evan Hugar (215) were named to the all-star team.
Oberheim went 53-10 and took with at states, Seeley went 38-10 and was a state qualifier, Wagne was 42-13 and was a state qualifier, Harer went 57-1 and took second at states, Furman went 44-13 and was a state qualifier, Knoebel went 37-16 and was a regional qualifier and Hugar went 33-21 and was a regional qualifier.
Also earning honors was Muncy’s Chase Boozer at 139 after a 45-5 freshman campaign which saw him take home a fourth-place medal.
South Williamsport’s Cole Gerber (189) and Jayden Hamm (172) both were all-star selections. Hamm went 33-10 and took fifth at regionals while Gerber went 25-15 and took eighth at districts.
Sullivan County’s Andrew Kapec earned all-star honors at 133 and went 35-11 and was a state qualifier. Benton’s Korben Collae was named an all-star at 107 and CMVT’s Brayden Benjamin was an all-star selection at 285.
