Township police charge 2 men with vehicle thefts

Two city men were arrested by Old Lycoming Township Police early Monday morning for allegedly breaking into vehicles in the township, according to Police Chief Joseph Hope.

According to police reports, Duane Allen Solomon, 41, and Samuel Joseph Agor, 26, both of 1610 High St., were seen walking on Mahaffey Lane at 2:45 a.m. An officer made contact with the two men and through his investigation found a large amount of change and currency, along with other items.

Although no reports had been made by victims at the time of the incident, both men were taken to police headquarters where they admitted to taking the items from approximately two dozen unlocked vehicles in the township.

Both will be sent summons to appear before District Magistrate William Solomon on charges of theft and receiving stolen property as well as loitering and prowling at night.

During the day on Monday, police received reports from victims of the vehicle entries and encouraged anyone who suspected they had items taken from their vehicle overnight Sunday into Monday to call the police department at 570-323-4987 or 570-329-4060.

Police said residents should lock doors on vehicles, homes and outbuidlings to prevent thefts.
