Bison lose on the road

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Sacred Heart used a 23-point second quarter to roll in an 30-10 win over Bucknell on Saturday.

Bucknell hosts Villanova on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the Bison’s first home game this season.

Sacred Heart scored the first points when Noah Gettman hit a 32-yard field goal in the second quarter. Bucknell answered however with a 31-yard field goal by Ethan Torres to tie the game at 3-3.

That’s when Sacred Heart proceeded to score 23 unanswered points to go ahead by 20 and Bucknell struggled to get back into it after that.

Dominic Lyles had a 50-yard touchdown pass from Logan Bitikofer to cut the deficit down to 13 points, but that was the closest the Bison would get the remainder of the game.

Julius Chestnut made it a 20-point lead again with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Logan Marchi.

John Chiarolanzio led the Bison by going 14 for 29 with 141 yards. Bitikofer had 72 passing yards and a touchdown.

While Bucknell had success in the air, its ground game struggled. Chad Freshnock had a team-high 42 rushing yards.

Marchi was excellent passing for Sacred Heart, throwing for 316 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Julius Chestnut ran for 162 as well, averaging 7.7 yards per rush, and had a touchdown. His longest run was an 86 yarder.

Naseim Brantley had a team-high 96 receiving yards for Sacred Heart and Tyrese Chambers had 94 and had an impressive 23.5 yards per catch average.
