Golf tip of the week: Lightning is dangerous

PHOTO PROVIDED A lightning bolt sliced through the palm tree and golf balls like a knife.

Lightning strikes are dangerous and usually happen ahead of the storm. Lightning can strike any time of the year and on rare occasions, even in the winter.

Be aware of the weather conditions and check your phone for threatening storms in the forecast. If you hear thunder or see lightning in the distance, take cover immediately. Don’t wait.

Our foursome was standing on the first tee in Florida when lightning struck a palm tree. It scared the living daylights of us. It rained golf balls from the tree. I kept one the golf balls for a reminder of how dangerous lightning is.

Don’t forget to enjoy this great game called golf.
