UPMC official: COVID-19 not as ‘widespread’ in region

“COVID-19 is here, but not necessarily as intensively active or widespread as other regions of the country,” was the word from Dr. Graham Snyder, medical director of infection prevention and hospital epidemiology at UPMC.

Snyder was joined by Dr. Donald Yealy, department of emergency medicine at UPMC and University of Pittsburgh and Dr. Rachel Sackrowitz, chief medical officer for UPMC’s ICU service center at a virtual press conference Friday at Pittsburgh.

“As of this morning, UPMC currently has 25 inpatients that are positive for COVID-19 illness throughout all of our hospitals,” Yealy announced.
