Avis Borough Council approves bid for paving of 5 streets
AVIS — The Avis Borough Council unanimously agreed to pass along a $73,900.70 bid from Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. for recommendation and approval for the paving of five borough streets at their in-person meeting Monday.
The recommendation will be sent to the streets committee, the borough engineer and the county municipal services
The streets include Clinton, Cliff and Kirby streets and Myrtle and Ivy alleys.
Once approved, council will be able to pay for the paving with their liquid fuels money and additional funds from their general fund.
The borough also discussed the approved tar and chip that was completed along Prospect Avenue, which totaled $2,796.80 and the tar and chip to be completed at the intersecting streets, Spring Street and Grier Lane, which totaled $1,908.
The contractor for those jobs were not disclosed.
In addition, at the May meeting, council approved sewer inspection fees for individuals who plan on moving and selling their homes. Those individuals must pay $250 in inspection fees and if there are any issues, they must be corrected to pass the inspection.
Borough council also noted that many individuals are behind on sewer payments from 2019 and before. If not paid, their water will be shut off.
Council did not issue any approval of late payments accepted without penalty.
In the June meeting, parks and tennis courts were opened as the county moved to the green phase.
The next Avis Borough Council meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. at the borough building on Ross Street.
