Elderly man injured in Muncy fire

MUNCY – Muncy Area volunteer firefighters were dispatched to 145 New St. to find this 20–20-foot storage building engulfed in flames just before 11 p.m. Wednesday, according to Fire Chief James Michael.

With the help of Pennsdale firefighters, the fire was knocked in a matter of minutes before flames could spread to two nearby buildings, including a house.

The name of the property owner was not released.

Investigators believe the structure fire was caused by sparks from a “controlled burn” that occurred earlier in the day and was just about 10 feet away, Michael said.

Leaves, floor boards and other debris were involved in the control burn.

At the control burn, an unidentified elderly man fell into the fire, Michael said. The man was taken by private vehicle to Muncy Valley Hospital, but has since been transferred to the burn unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, where he is recovering, Michael said.
