DA to judge: Reject Wellsboro Area School Board member-elect
The Tioga County District Attorney is asking a judge to block a newly elected man from taking his seat on the Wellsboro Area School Board, according to WETM-TV.
According to the Elmira, New York-based TV station’s report, Tioga County District Attorney Krista Deats seeks to block Noyes Lawton from joining the school board for a 4-year term because in 2001 Lawton pled guilty to endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors and DUI. The charges stemmed from inappropriate contact with a 17-year-old.
WETM reports that the judge can either schedule a hearing to consider the matter or instruct Lawton to decline to take the seat.
