Fire apparatus, flood mitigation and parks eyed in $25.5M Rescue Plan fund

Williamsport Bureau of Fire needs American Rescue Plan funds to replace two engines and a ladder truck. Grafius Run flood mitigation requires immediate attention as the city engineer looks for designs from larger engineering firms. City parks need to be improved with emphasis on making baseball fields playable to have games return to Brandon Park and possibly a splash pad and bike trail at Shaw Place Park.

These were among the big ticket items discussed in the second hour of a third work session Monday night by city administration and City Council as officials looked at how to spend nearly $25.5 million in rescue plan funds.

These ideas and investment in a comprehensive economic development plan and attention to small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic were concepts ripe for use of the federal funds half of which, or $12.7 million, have been banked as of this spring and the other half expected in late April or early May.

The two-hour meeting was held by remote on YouTube.
