Motorcyclist killed in Loyalsock crash identified

A young man was killed Wednesday night when his motorcycle and an SUV collided at East Third Street and Old Montoursville Road in Loyalsock Township, the Lycoming County Coroner’s Office and state police confirmed.
The police identified the motorcyclist as 21-year-old Cogan Metzger, who lived in the Warrensville Road area.
He had exited I-180 East at the Warrensville Road interchange and ran a red light at Old Montoursville Road when the collision occurred about 9:15 p.m., according to state police and emergency responders.
The identity of the car’s 66-year-old driver was expected to be released in the coming days, police said, adding the driver took evasive action in an attempt to avoid the collision, but was not able to do so. He was not injured.
The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown a short distance off his cycle, police said.
A trooper and two other people who either witnessed the collision or came upon it moments after it happened immediately began providing emergency assistance to the injured motorcyclist, including performing chest compressions on him.
The motorcyclist was loaded into the back of an ambulance and rushed to UPMC Williamsport, where he was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m of blunt force trauma injuries, a deputy coroner said.
The I-180 East off-ramp was closed as was Third Street from Warrensville Road to Old Montourville Road for three hours as investigators gathered and recorded evidence of the crash.
Troopers were back at the scene Thursday morning as their investigation was ongoing.
