Region sees first significant snowfall of 2025 season

PHILIP A. HOLMES/Sun-Gazette Although winter doesn't start officially until Dec. 21, the region received its first snowfall on Tuesday when steady, but wet snow fell throughout the morning. AccuWeather estimated 2-4 inches were expected to accumulate by the time the snow tapered off by early afternoon. Everything from shovels, battery-powered snow brooms as well as backhoes, like ones shown in these downtown photos, were put into service to clear walks and parking lots. The county's 911 center dispatched more than a half a dozen crashes between 6 and 10:45 a.m , but none resulted in serious injuries, according to officials. Just before 11 a m., a driver suffered minor injuries when her vehicle went off the road and landed in a ditch in the 300 block of Nices Hollow Road in Porter Township. Lycoming Regional police were investigating the accident.
