Variety of charges lodged in Lycoming County district courts

Domestic disturbance lands boyfriend in county prison

During a domestic disturbance in his girlfriend’s apartment on Center Street on Saturday morning, William Richard Watson Jr. “held a gun to the woman’s head and told her that if she tried to leave, he would kill her and her child,” it was alleged in an affidavit. It was unknown how long Watson held the mother and her child hostage, police alleged, adding that the woman feared for her life and her child’s safety due to Watson’s alleged threats. Shortly after 9 a.m., the woman texted a friend and asked them to call the police.

Once officers were on the scene, Watson, 36, of 3605 Lycoming Creek Road, lot 15, was taken into custody without incident. His girlfriend told the officers that Watson hid a handgun in a book safe, and kept a large amount of drugs in a closet. Police obtained a search warrant to go through the apartment. Investigators seized a stolen gun and 2.5 pounds of marijuana. Watson was arraigned hours later before District Judge Gary Whiteman on felony charges of possession with intent to deliver marijuana, convicted felon not to possess a firearm (he was convicted of felony burglary in 2017), receiving stolen property plus several misdemeanors, including false imprisonment, terroristic threats, simple assault and additional drug offenses. He was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

City man charged with allegedly possessing child pornography denied bail

Bail was denied last week for Daniel Eugene Ade, of 353 W. Third St., who was arrested on 200 felony counts of sexual abuse of children for possessing videos or photos of child pornography that were found on his two cellphones and a tablet, city police alleged in an affidavit. These charges are the latest to be filed against the 57-year-old man, who was initially arrested and jailed on Nov. 10 on a series of offenses for allegedly soliciting sexual favors online from a person posing as a female minor, police alleged. The porography charges were the result of investigators seizing the digital equipment from Ade’s apartment and discovering child sexual abuse material on them after obtaining a warrant to search the devices, police said. Following his arraignment before District Judge Christian Frey, Ade was placed in the county prison.

College student jailed on shoplifting-related charges

After he was caught stealing from Wegmans at 201 William St. on Oct 3, 19-year-old Kemoy Akil Hewlett lied about his name and his age, claiming to be 17 and giving a false date of birth, city police alleged. He also said he was homeless, but he wasn’t, police said. When he was caught by store security, Hewlett, of Frederick, Maryland, was wearing a football shirt from a regional college. “Hewlett denied being a student at that school,” it was stated in an affidavit. The officer told the teen that he was “the subject of an official police investigation and was advised that he would be charged accordingly” if it was determined that he was providing false information, the court document stated.

When the officer returned to the police station, he looked up the college football’s team roster, and sure enough, there was Hewlett and his photo on the roster, police said. Through their investigation, Wegmans’ security officials determined that Hewlett had allegedly stolen merchandise from the supermarket earlier the same day, police said. The total value of the stolen merchandise from both incidents – which were recorded on store video – was $64, police said. Charged with false identity to law enforcement, receiving stolen property and two counts of shoplifting, Hewlett was initially mailed a summons, but when that was returned unclaimed, a warrant for his arrest was filed. He was taken into custody late Monday afternoon and arraigned before District Judge William Solomom. He was jailed in lieu of $7,500 bail.

Starting at $2.99/week.
