Movie review: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
Trending
With a whopping total of 18 movies all leading to one grand showdown, Marvel had to make sure that "Avengers: Infinity War" would live up to its great expectations. Leaving the theater on opening night, I knew that it undoubtedly did. I was truly floored after seeing this movie. The Russo brothers found a way of taking the monumental task of assembling all the Marvel superheroes and crafting it into one fantastic film. It was everything that I wanted it to be and more.
The Avengers must reunite and team up with literally almost every superhero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to stop the dreadful Thanos from gathering all six infinity stones. Wielding the power of the infinity stones could mean the end of life on a universal level. The Avengers must do whatever it takes to protect humanity from their most dangerous foe yet.
Seeing the lengthy running time of more than two and a half hours, I was relieved yet worried. I knew that this movie would have to be long to tackle its massive story, but I was nervous that it would be boring. My fear was unwarranted as this movie flew by; there was never a dull moment. The film had so much going on at once with the several story arcs that did not allow the audience to rest. It would be easy to let a film as big as this one feel out of control, but "Avengers: Infinity War" felt surprisingly contained. The movie was tightly organized, not wasting any minute.
Over the years, Marvel movies have continued to gather more and more top-notch actors. Appearing all together at once on screen was satisfyingly overwhelming. The way the characters were divided up allowed their personalities to shine, providing some hilarious moments. However, this strength is also the film's weakness. The excessive amount of talent does not always get to be equally shown as some characters are disappointingly underrepresented. "Avengers: Infinity War" did not cut any corners on introducing their new villain. With the only new major character being Thanos, the movie could afford to develop the character. This is the Marvel villain that fans have always been promised. He was menacing and unlike previous villains, he proved to be deadly.
This is by far the darkest and most emotional of all the Marvel films. Not once before has any of the heroes felt in as much danger as they are in this movie. By the time the credits rolled, everyone in the theater was a wreck as they couldn't believe what they just witnessed. For the first time, no one can truly predict what will happen next.
"Avengers: Infinity War" was the film that everyone dreamed of. It took risks, showing that Marvel no longer is still using training wheels. This film was well worth the wait, being one of the studio's finest. I just don't know if I can wait another year for part two after an ending like that.
