New Asian restaurant opens in city
A new Asian restaurant has opened in Williamsport offering take-out, delivery and sit-down customer service.
Ribbon-cutting ceremonies recently were held for Hachiko Asian Cuisine Restaurant, 210 Williams St.
Hachiko offers a menu of prepared Asian food including homemade dumplings and Chinese crepes, along with a variety of classic Asian cuisine and “bubble teas,” much of which is included in a freshly prepared daily lunch bar available for take-out, delivery or indoor dining.
The restaurant is owned and managed by Feng Gao and Shengnan Sun, who moved to the U.S. from China in 2010 to attend school and have now made Williamsport their home.
“Feng and I grew up with parents and grandparents that took great pride in preparing delicious homemade meals, so we have an appreciation for flavorful quality food made with care,” Sun said. “I graduated with a degree in nursing but worked at several well-known Asian restaurants while attending school and found that combining my desire to serve others with my love of great food brought me a lot of joy, so I decided to open Hachiko with Feng to serve exceptional food to the wonderful people of Williamsport who have always shown us such kindness and support.”
Gao said being a business owner is a dream come true after having cooked and served as a chef at other restaurants and developing recipes from food prepared by relatives.
“I take great care in preparing all of the dishes and the food is a reflection of me. I hope everyone will enjoy and provide feedback so we can continue to add interesting and delicious new dishes on a regular basis,” Gao said.
The couple has been working with the Lock Haven University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for assistance with the planning and challenges of opening a new business.
Brenda Holdren, Sr., business consultant at the SBDC, said, “Shengnan and Feng love the area and have made incredible efforts to learn and embrace the language and local culture. Hachiko Asian Cuisine is a great new addition to the growing downtown area and I’m sure it will quickly become a favorite with local residents.”
The restaurant is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday.
The phone number is 570-666-8088.
