Scouts to present business executive with distinguished citizen award

2 min read

The Susquehanna Council of the Boy Scouts of America will honor a local business leader and philanthropist with its 2015 Distinguished Citizen Award.

Andree Phillips, chief operating officer of Radiant Steel Products Co., president of the Community Theater League and chair of the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, will receive the award at a ceremony Oct. 28 at Pennsylvania College of Technology’s John F. Thompson Professional Development Center.

Each year the Susquehanna Council identifies one person in the community who has lived a life consistent with the values of Scouting and recognizes him or her with the Distinguished Citizen Award. Characteristics of awardees include moral strength and character, active citizenship, inspired leadership and a daily commitment to the welfare of others.

Though the award is given by the Boy Scouts of America, recipients do not need to be boys or Scouts. Instead, the organization chooses an exemplary local resident who serves as a model of good citizenship.

William P. Carlucci, past president of the Susquehanna Council of the Boy Scouts of America, said Phillips was a well-rounded candidate who has proven her commitment to the local community.

“Andree Phillips has been repeatedly recognized for her dedication to high quality education for local students, high quality jobs for local workers and high quality entertainment for our community,” he said.

Since taking the top position at Radiant Steel in 1983, Phillips has grown the business into a significant local employer.

In addition to her work with the Community Theater League and Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, Phillips has served as trustee and past chair of the River Valley Regional YMCA, chair for the Business/Education Coalition, past chair for the Manufacturer & Business Association and the Manufacturers Association of Central Pennsylvania and a member of the Pennsylvania College of Technology Corporate Advisory Board.
