Construction on renovations and an extension to the Muncy Valley Hospital will be complete in the fall, according to hospital administrators.
"The expansion of that facility is well needed and will help the community," said Dieter Reichmann, administrative director for facilities for UPMC Susquehanna, adding that over 16,000 people use the hospital each year. The Muncy hospital is a member of UPMC Susquehanna.
The hospital expansion has been underway for many years, with construction beginning in November 2015, Reichmann said. The $16 million project encompasses a 5,000-square-foot expansion and an 11,000-square-foot renovation.
"We are on track and on schedule," Reichmann said.
The hospital received a $5 million grant through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program from the state, and the Lycoming County commissioners signed off on it Thursday.
I know a lot of people rely on that facility, and a lot of people go there," said Commissioner Jack McKernan, adding that he appreciated UPMC's dedication to the hospital and the community.
"It is an exciting development," Commissioner Rick Mirabito added, specifying that a lot of county seniors use the Muncy hospital.
