COGAN STATION -- Firefighters responded to a garage fire in Anthony Township that continued to explode as men and women from multiple fire stations arrived on the scene.
"When we got here we had a garage well involved with multiple explosions inside," Hepburn Township Fire Chief Jeff Tempesco said.
The large 20 by 40 foot garage housed two trucks, a motorcycle and a four-wheeler. As the fire engulfed the building, the vehicles inside exploded.
"My sister and her fiance were in the hot tub and they saw the flames," the homeowners son, Mark Freezer Jr., said. They began to hear the "loud popping" of the explosions moments before calling 911.
While the vehicles inside were covered with flames, the fire did not spread to the house and no one was harmed.
Because there was no chance of injury to the family, firefighters could deal with the fire without getting too close. "With something like this we come in and it's defensive," Tempesco said.
"We will attempt to get guys in there and get stuff out," Tempesco said, who hoped to clear some of the ruined possessions out for the family.
"This was a big loss," homeowner Mark Freezer said. "Nobody got hurt at least."
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
