Two additions proposed for airport terminal construction

Two change orders may add to the expense of the new terminal project at the Williamsport Regional Airport, albeit by a relatively small sum, said Thomas J. Hart, executive director of the airport.

Hart brought two changes to the Williamsport Municipal Airport Authority’s attention Thursday that will come before the board at next month’s meeting.

One is to use textured stainless steel in the terminal’s restrooms instead of smooth stainless steel for “easier maintenance,” which will cost about $4,800 total, he said. The second is to add another access point — likely a door with keycode entry — to the ramp for airline personnel, allowing them to bypass the main entrance. Hart said he does not have an estimated cost for that proposed change yet.

In all, the construction project is “going well,” Hart said.

The footers and piers are complete, foundation backfilling is about 90 percent complete, east-side under-slab electrical and plumbing is complete and electrical and plumbing on the west side is about 80 percent complete, he said. The east-end slab-on-grade has been poured and pouring of the west end will begin shortly, he added.

Steel delivery is expected later this month or in early November.

In conjunction with the construction work completed thus far, the authority unanimously approved two bill payments — the first to Lobar Inc. in the amount of $185,379 and the second to LTS Plumbing and Heating in the amount of $12,004.

Hart also gave an update on the fuel farm, saying the work will be completed this fall. After completion, the airport will go out to bid for the new fuel tanks.

Hart said milling and paving of Runway 9/27 will begin on Monday and will be completed in two-week phases “as not to interrupt American Airlines’ schedule.” Phase one will be the east side of the runway and phase two will be the west side. Some work will be completed at night, he said. The center section is slated for 2018.

“As funding comes available (next year), we’ll do the center section of the runway,” Hart said.

The next meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the airport.
