As Lycoming County District Attorney Eric R. Linhardt prepares to take the oath of office as judge, a longtime assistant district attorney in his office has been appointed to Linhardt's unexpired term.
Kenneth Osokow, who started with the county as a law clerk in 1976, will officially be appointed as district attorney once Linhardt has been inaugurated and will serve in that capacity until the next election in 2019.
He has served as an assistant district attorney since 1977. Osokow was selected in accordance with state legislation, which requires that the first assistant district attorney take the title of district attorney during a vacancy.
"I have had the benefit of serving our last six elected district attorneys, and each of them has taught me a great deal about what it means to serve in the public interest," Osokow said. "I look forward to continuing the honorable and proud tradition of the office. Advocating on behalf of victims, and protecting the public's safety will remain my highest priorities."
Osokow said he is unsure of whether he will run in the 2019 election for district attorney.
The inauguration will be held at 9 a.m. Jan. 2 in the county courthouse. President Judge Nancy L. Butts will officiate the ceremony and Senior Judge Kenneth D. Brown will swear Linhardt and Osokow into their new positions.
