The Lycoming County commissioners may not "have a choice" but to approve a $102,469 renewal for the Superion software maintenance agreement and licensing Thursday.
Though the recently-completed Early Intervention Program report suggests analyzing that cost either to find ways to reduce it or to better use the product, or to find another vendor altogether, because the county must use it for handling its finances, it may be locked into that contract at least for 2019, the commissioners said.
"I do not believe we are utilizing the software to its fullest potential. I don't have access to much of the system, anyway," said Nicki Brelsford, deputy controller.
Due to the report and the county's inability to use the program to its full potential, the county Department of Information Services is looking into a new software package.
"We're just starting into this process, we have a long way to go," said Karl Demi, department director.
Not only will it take time to find a new resource, should the county take that route, it also would take "probably a year" to implement a new package, Demi added.
"No matter what we do, we're running that program for another year," he said, referring to the $102,469 Superion package.
Other actions to be considered include renewing a contract with Adelphoi for residential services for the Juvenile Probation Office, reappointing Commissioner Jack McKernan and Howard W. Fry III to Seda-Council of Government's executive board, and several personnel actions including eliminating the deputy director of GIS position and reclassifying Fran McJunkin, who currently holds that title, to deputy director of planning.
The commissioners approved two professional service agreements for Resource Management Services for a five-year term on an as-needed basis.
One is with NRG Controls North for program maintenance for the two boilers used to burn methane gas and heat the recycling center. The other is with JKJ Tool Company for machining.
In another matter, the commissioners announced the Early Intervention Program report will be presented between 6:30 and 8:30 Jan. 31 in Executive Plaza.
Commissioners McKernan, Tony Mussare and Rick Mirabito were present. The next meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Executive Plaza.
